About the journal
Style notes for a life well dressed — and well lived.
Opal Wardrobe Notes began with a simple frustration: style advice that only works on runways, travel guides that exhaust instead of restore, and interiors photographed but never lived in. We write the opposite — practical, tested, plain-spoken stories for real wardrobes, real trips, real rooms and real training weeks.
A small journal with strong opinions, lightly held
Every story starts the same way: an editor tries something in real life first. A capsule wardrobe worn for a full season. A solo itinerary walked end to end. A paint finish scrubbed, scuffed and lived with before we recommend it.
We publish across four desks — Fashion, Travel, Design and Sports — because a good life is not single-issue. The same reader who cares about proportion in a blazer cares about proportion in a living room, and trains for both with the same discipline.
We are independent, reader-first and allergic to filler. If a story does not change what you buy, book, build or do, it does not ship.

How we work
We test first
Nothing is recommended from a press release. Methods are tried, garments worn, routes walked and finishes lived with before a word is written.
We write plainly
No jargon, no padding, no ten-paragraph preamble. The useful answer comes first; the enjoyable detail follows.
We update honestly
Advice changes as seasons and rules change. Stories are revisited, corrections are published, and the changelog below keeps us accountable.
